Schwalbe HYBRID Johnny Watts: the tire for SUV e-bikes

As a tire for SUV e-bikes, the Schwalbe HYBRID Johnny Watts feels just as at home in urban traffic as it does off-road during tours. With grip, comfort, and an impressive range.

HYBRID Johnny Watts is our first tire specifically developed for SUV e-bikes. Just like an SUV, it is practically prepared for anything: in daily city use, it is the powerhouse that safely gets you to your destination. When venturing into the terrain, it ignites your sense of adventure and allows you to discover new paths. It always combines comfort, grip, and range. Additionally, it offers protection against punctures and lasts for many miles.

MTB performance for SUVs: radial and tubeless

HYBRID Johnny Watts brings innovations from MTB tires to SUV bikes. The radial carcass construction technology provides up to 30% larger contact area and significantly better adaptation to the terrain – bumps and vibrations are noticeably dampened before they reach your hands, arms, or shoulders. This truly makes a difference on long rides or rough roads.

Thanks to the consistently improved contact with the ground, traction and grip are enhanced without increasing rolling resistance. A smart tread design combines efficient rolling with plenty of control – even on loose or uneven terrain.

The result: a smoother, safer, and more comfortable riding experience – on asphalt, gravel, and light terrain. For e-bikes with higher average speeds, this means a clear boost in safety and riding confidence.

Grip in the terrain and range on bike paths

As a true all-rounder, HYBRID Johnny Watts strikes the perfect balance between off-road and street tires. It rolls lightly and quietly over asphalt and bike paths. The low rolling resistance ensures riding pleasure and a greater range. In moderate terrain, it excels with plenty of grip and traction.

The tread for SUV e-bikes

For smooth rolling and quiet performance on asphalt and other hard surfaces, the HYBRID Johnny Watts features closely spaced knobs in the center, forming an almost closed tread pattern. The generous dimensions ensure a long lifespan. Towards the shoulders, the tread opens up to provide extra traction off-road. The large shoulder knobs are inspired by mountain bike tires and deliver excellent grip in corners.

Tubeless: the revolution from cycling

The HYBRID Johnny Watts is tubeless ready (TLR). With the right rims (including hookless), tubeless valves, and our Doc Blue sealing milk, you can ride it without an inner tube. This pays off: the tire rolls better without an inner tube, and the milk seals small punctures instantly. Moreover, you can ride with lower tire pressure without an inner tube, which enhances comfort and grip. Of course, TLR tires are also compatible with a standard or Aerothan inner tube.

The right tire pressure

Tire performance, rolling resistance, and thus the battery range of e-bikes depend on the correct tire pressure. With the Schwalbe Pressure Guide, you can easily determine the best pressure to get the most out of the Johnny Watts. With small adjustments, you can fine-tune the riding behavior.

Environmentally friendly performance: ADDIX Green

Our ADDIX Green compound stands for sustainability and performance for both the tread and sidewall. With up to 80 percent renewable and recycled materials, this is our most environmentally friendly rubber compound. Among other things, we use carbon black from our own tire recycling.

Which tire fits which rim?

The so-called ETRTO size (European Tire and Rim Technical Organisation) consists of two numbers:
the first is the width of the tire in millimeters and the second is the diameter of the tire in millimeters.
City bikes usually have tire size 37-622: a 37 mm width and a 622 mm diameter.
The tire width must match the rim width.
The following chart shows possible combinations of tire widths and rim widths according to ETRTO.
