Spoke holes and the inside of bicycle rims can sometimes contain sharp edges, so we recommend always using rim tape to add a protective layer between the inner tube and rim.
Rim tapes are often made of rubber, though some are also made of cotton or a compound made of both materials.
Some rim tapes have a self-adhesive layer that keeps the rim tape in place, thereby offering long-term protection.
When using rim tape, make sure that it covers the entire rim base so the tape can't shift.
If the rim tape is narrower than the rim base, your rim tape might start shift and you’ll increase your risk of punctures.
