What to look for in a folding bike

•    Purpose - We’ve previously mentioned a few differences between folding bike types that are important when making your final choice. If you only bike a few kilometers at a time, it can be enough to invest in a simple, cheaper model. When you cover longer distances (and if you like having a little extra comfort), a more luxurious model is a better investment - think larger wheels or electric support. 
•    Foldability/adjustability - Is the folding bike easy to fold? If you’re buying a folding bike for the practical aspect of it, a folding bike that is difficult and slow to fold is the last thing you need. Quick and easy foldability is preferable.
•    Weight - A folding bike should be easy to lift and usually weighs roughly between 9 and 17 kg. Naturally, a folding bike with electric support is a little heavier. The added weight is mostly in the material and any extra features - this goes for folding bikes without electric support as well.
•    Extras - “Extras” means any additional features like gears. Folding bikes either have one gear (to reduce weight) or a multi-gear system. This is another thing to pay attention to when selecting a folding bike: how many gears do you want? The more gears, the more comfortable your cycling. 
•    Wheel size - Below, we’ll explain what wheel size you need according to your height. Keep in mind that the larger the bicycle wheels are, the more comfortable and stable your cycling will be.
 

What size folding bike do you need?

The right size folding bike is easy to find! Why? There’s only a limited range of sizes available:

•    Folding bikes with 14 inch wheels
•    Folding bikes with 16 inch wheels
•    Folding bikes with 20 inch wheels

The reason for the limited number of size options is that folding bikes can be adjusted in multiple ways. If you’re between 140 cm and 175 cm tall (between 4’7” and 5’9”), the 14 inch folding bike will suit you best. If you’re under 170 cm or 5’7” inches tall, the slightly larger 16 inch folding bike will be better suited. If you’re over 170 cm or 5’7” tall, the 20 inch folding bike is the best choice for you.
