This guide will tell you how to replace a center-mount kickstand (on bicycles suitable for a center-mount kickstand). There are single and double leg center-mount kickstands.

Important to know before you begin

The wheel size determines the right kickstand length. For a 28” wheel, you will need a 28” kickstand.
Some kickstands can be adjusted in length.

The kickstand bracket is a piece of metal located between the bottom bracket housing and the rear wheel. This bracket comes in two sizes, either 20 or 29 mm.
The 20mm version is mainly found on Gazelle bicycles.
Most bicycle brands have a 29mm kickstand bracket.

Step 1 : Removing your old kickstand

The bolt is usually fastened at the top of the kickstand, but can also be located at the bottom of the kickstand.
The kickstand is usually threaded, though the kickstand may also be fastened with a nut at the bottom.
In this case, you will need two box wrenches or spanners.

If there is a cover cap, remove it. (1, 2)
The kickstand bolt should now be visible. (3)

Step 2 : Removing the old kickstand

Loosen the kickstand bolt, using a box wrench or spanner. (1)
Once you have loosened the bolt, you can remove the kickstand. (2, 3)

If the bolt is really stuck, using WD-40 penetrating oil should help loosen it.

Step 3 : Installing the new kickstand

Grease up the new kickstand bolt so you will also be able to loosen it later. (1)
Insert the kickstand bolt through the bicycle’s bracket, using a lock ring if needed, and mount the kickstand. (2)
Firmly tighten the bolt, so it doesn’t loosen when subject to vibration. (3)
