Founded in Taiwan in 1972, SunRace started producing derailleurs in all shapes and sizes because they were hard to come by in Taiwan.
The first 10-speed and 12-speed derailleurs were soon sold to local Taiwanese bicycle manufacturers, who became a group of regular clients for SunRace and allowed the company to focus on the development and innovation of its products.

In 1980, SunRace expanded its product range to include derailleurs with 15, 18 and 21 gears.
