When we set out to develop a race-ready gravity MTB shoe, the feedback we got from top pro athletes was pretty clear: Downhill and Enduro racers alike wanted a protective and durable shoe to improve their bike control through the pedals.

But beyond the control, they also wanted the lightweight performance and precision fit of a more performance-oriented pair, a combination that’s missing from most gravity mountain bike shoes.
So we went to the drawing board to create a unicorn: a lightweight and agile, yet rugged, race shoe that ticks all the boxes for competitive downhill and enduro MTB riders.

Let’s start with the outsole.
Along with your hands on the bars, your feet are a crucial contact point when it comes to bike control.
The Gravita outsole provides the type of shoe-pedal interface you need for fast, aggressive gravity riding, combining the stickiest Vibram XS Trek Evo rubber compound with a zoned lug pattern. A tapered tread pattern with a low profile at the midfoot provides a direct connection and optimal mechanical interface with the pedal pins, while a deeper, sharper tread under the heel and toes provides better grip on the ground when hiking back up the hill.

This clip-in version is stiffer than its flat counterpart for better power transfer throughout the pedal stroke, improving pedaling efficiency.
With an extended cleat track, the clip-in version allows you to run your cleats further back to allow for lowered heels on descents to improve both stability and control, just as you would when riding flat pedals.

Both downhill and enduro racing are known for their short, intense and powerful pedal strokes, whether sprinting out of the starting blocks or approaching the finish line.
Providing the right foot tension and fit is essential to effectively transfer every useful watt of power generated. To avoid wasting watts, we’ve used our decades of design experience and knowledge to create cycling shoes that fit perfectly.

For the Tensor, we developed an ergonomic lacing pattern that hugs the foot and distributes tension evenly throughout the pedal stroke.
A Powerstrap across the instep provides a secure fit, stabilizes the plantar arch, and locks the heel in place while also keeping the laces in check.

We’ve been intentional about reducing weight and eliminating the excess material that would otherwise lead to the bulky look and sloppy fit of typical gravity shoes.
To prevent this, the Tensor has a sleek silhouette and minimal weight through the use of innovative rip-stop outer fabrics and an inner lining that is far less absorbent than traditional alternatives.

In addition to these durable and abrasion-resistant materials, our Gravity road shoe is equipped with the essential protection needed for fast and wild riding: an injection-molded TPU toe box keeps rocks and debris out, while the raised tread on the inside of the ankle and a robust laminated abrasion guard protect high-wear areas.
