This thread repair kit showcases the top quality of IceToolz. A highly professional and comprehensive set. This repair kit is ideal for replacing or reinforcing the thread of the pedals. Typically, this thread is tapped into the crank, especially in older, retro models that can sometimes be irreplaceable. Installing a Helicoil® is the perfect solution. It’s straightforward, but the job must be done meticulously.
The thread taps feature 2 types of threads; the first cleans the existing thread of the crank, and then the real work begins. The thread for the Helicoil® is tapped into the crank. Ensure that enough cutting fluid (C143) is used.
Once the Helicoil® thread is cut into the crank and the crank is cleaned of cutting debris, the appropriate Helicoil® can be installed. Pay attention to the difference between left (black) and right (gold). First, screw the Helicoil® into the guides located in the wrench of the thread repair kit. Then, screw the Helicoil® into the crank. Use a needle-nose pliers (28L2) to break off the crossbar, and the crank arm is ready for pedal installation.
