Compound - SmartGRIP Gravity:
Pirelli developed this rubber based on the needs of modern riding, where higher speeds and more capable engines call for softer damping and more controlled rebound.
Based on the properties of lignin, a natural chemical component from the artisanal pulping process of waste paper - patented by Pirelli - the new SmartGRIP Gravity offers all the benefits of its XC-oriented counterpart, the classic SmartGRIP Compound, but with a softer durometer.
Lignin is not only a low impact additive, but it also improves the mechanical properties of the rubber, resulting in better tear resistance than any other formulation of the same hardness.

This performance improvement does not compromise the other property of the SmartGRIP Compound formulation, namely the chemical grip: the rider benefits from a consistent behavior of the tire performance throughout its life, even at the higher loads that gravity riding requires.
This combination of properties has allowed Pirelli engineers to develop a rubber compound that improves rolling as well as grip and reliability, resulting in a motorcycle that handles rough terrain more easily, is faster and has better overall handling.

Hyperwall:
The third innovation that Pirelli brings to the cycling world from its motorsport background: a newly designed bead and sidewall construction that further improves the tire's performance in terms of low-pressure handling and puncture resistance.
In off-road applications, especially in the most demanding applications such as gravity and eMTB, the integrity of the bead and the stability of the sidewalls are an important pillar for the overall performance of the tire: the tread with its advanced rubber compound relies heavily on the stability and integrity of the bead and the sidewalls themselves.
Pirelli introduced a construction that firmly anchors the bead and sidewall rubber insert with a woven fabric flipper, making them behave as a single unit rather than as separate components with relative movements to each other, as is the case with the usual constructions in the sector.
