What do the high torque loads on an e-bike do to the chain, and how does lubrication help combat this?

The high torque load on an e-bike will cause the chain to wear out much faster than on a regular bike due to the increased and immediate power spikes from the motor. This results in heavier loads on the chain and chainrings, leading to more friction from increased metal-on-metal contact, which causes wear if the proper lubrication is not used. Our e-bike lubricants were developed to counteract this with their unique blend of synthetic oils, a high level of custom additives, and Boron Nitride, meaning they last longer and reduce friction across the drivetrain, even under increased loads.

If there is increased wear on the e-bike chain, will using the eBike lubricant ensure the chain wears at the same rate as on a regular bike?

Using our e-bike lubricants will significantly reduce friction while riding and will allow the chain to run smoother for much longer than traditional lubricants, but there will always be higher stresses on the chain due to the motor assistance, which will reduce the lifespan of a chain more than on a regular bike.

Is the lubrication interval the same as for a regular bike?
We recommend cleaning and re-lubricating your e-bike chain more frequently, as often as you can... if possible, after every ride. By doing this, you extend the lifespan of your chain and other drivetrain components, which can be costly to repair.

What is Boron Nitride, and what does it do?
Boron nitride is an advanced particle present in our lubricants. It provides increased levels of durability and wear resistance, as well as excellent lubrication properties. It forms a stable tribofilm, which is essential for achieving the enhanced tribological performance needed for e-bike specific lubrication.

What is the eBike additives package?
The eBike additives package is the name we have given to the extra high levels of 'extreme pressure additives' that we have added to our eBike lubricants to reduce wear, even under the higher torque loads of an eBike drivetrain.
